Infection ControlInfection Control

The prevention and control of infections in healthcare settings is increasingly important, particularly those caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae, Clostridium difficile and resistant organisms such as MRSA, MRSE, and VRE. The prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) has recently emerged as a national priority in the United States. Infection control initiatives lead by healthcare organizations, professional associations, government and accrediting agencies, legislators, regulators and payers and consumer advocacy groups have focused attention on prevention of common HAI's such as surgical site infection (SSI), ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) and catheter related bloodstream infections (CRBSI). CRBSI are the fourth most common HAI with the highest attributable mortality and costs to treat of all the HAI.

To meet these challenges, the BIOPATCH® Products Division of Ethicon offers the BIOPATCH® Protective Disk dressing, with CHG (chlorhexidine gluconate) to reduce local infections, catheter-related blood stream infections (CRBSI), and skin colonization of microorganisms commonly related to CRBSI, in patients with central venous or arterial catheters.
